Questionnaire Response

Carla Compton - Tuxedo

1. Why did you decide to run in the Manitoba election?

The Manitoba Healthcare system and the effects of the Pallister Government’s sweeping changes is what lit the fire in me to pick a side and offer to serve as a Manitoba NDP MLA in the Manitoba Government.

2. Why should a voter consider electing you to represent them?

One of the reasons I have dared to step up and offer to serve the Tuxedo Constituency is the feedback I have received from my conservative and liberal leaning colleagues, friends and family. Specifically from our discussions where we find common ground and possible solutions to the current issues facing Manitoba today. These conversations often end with “Carla, you should be in politics. I would even vote for you if you were NDP.”

Respect and trust building are foundational for everything I do. I want each Constituent of Tuxedo to know my intent is to understand your perspectives and challenges so I can best represent you in the next Manitoba Government.

I want the Tuxedo Constituents to know that I will not shy away from any topic or issue that needs to be addressed. As well as no matter your political leanings, I will listen and serve you to the best of my ability.

3. What key issue(s) / topic(s) will you stand for in your role as MLA, and why are these important to you?

As a Registered Nurse (RN), Healthcare is a top priority as I see the significant impact it has in the daily lives of Manitobans. I believe Wab Kinew and the Manitoba NDP are the best option for an innovative and stable Healthcare system.

But a healthy Manitoba isn’t just about hospitals. It is also about the Environment and mitigating Climate Change; the Education System and ensuring we are preparing our young people for success; the Economy and creating opportunities for innovation and stable growth; Infrastructure and the quality of life that can be lived by all.

I will bring the same level of passion and commitment to all areas of government as they are all connected and needed for a thriving Manitoba.

4. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I believe my experience as a Registered Nurse is an asset and has prepared me well to become MLA of Tuxedo.

For over 13 years I have been addressing uncomfortable and challenging topics and working with all personality types to achieve positive health outcomes for my patients and their families.

As an RN, I currently serve people I don’t always agree with. I value differing opinions and strive to understand them. If they are ignored or shut out this will cause frustration, anger, alienation and ultimately conflict which stalls progress.

Whether in the majority or not, I will connect and collaborate with whomever I need to best represent the Constituents of Tuxedo.

Wab Kinew and the Manitoba NDP offer the best solutions for a strong, resilient and growing Manitoba.
